The Hurt Locker

I just recently watched the film The Hurt Locker. In case you haven't heard, it won all kinds of awards and recognition. I found it to be an interesting film, and thought the filming and acting were just fantastic.

However, the premise of the film seems flawed to me. The adrenaline junkie character of William James just didn't feel like a good fit for the role of a bomb disposal technician. To be sure, actor Jeremy Remmer played the part to perfection, but I have a hard time believing that this is the type of person that would be allowed to operate in this role. The unnecessary risk he placed his team in just didn't make any sense to me. Especially the part where he not only orders his bomb disposal team to go hunting down insurgents, but he gets them to split up, and then one of them gets shot in friendly fire. That entire sequence didn't make any sense to me.

On a related note, the scene where the British sniper is taken out, but the American bomb disposal team suddenly becomes an incredibly proficient sniper team just made me roll my eyes. Typical American movie making at it's best.
